Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the attack left him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
